Perth Fashion Week 2012 – Melinda Looi – Perth, Donna Ferreri

What a kick start this Perth’s first Fashion Week with Melinda Looi Couture. The show was broken in two parts showcasing two differently inspired collections. Looi opened with “The Enchanting Edo Era”, which was a modern twist on a classical oriental theme. There were vivid prints in striking colours, lavish embroidery silks and structured gowns trimmed with lace.

The second half “The Flight of Life” was a whirlwind of feathers, silks and glittering embellishments. Inspired by the harmony and happiness that comes from post disastrous effects, the fluid movement of the gowns teamed with the romantic soft colour palette had the models floating down the runway. I was absolutely fascinated by the tall fathered neckpiece, but I`m not sure it would match anything in my wardrobe.

The make up and show stopping head pieces, guaranteed the audiences attention from beginning to end. Melinda Looi put on a show of such intensity and awesome, something that the audiences of Perth have never seen the likes of, but I can safely say would love to see more. I couldn’t think of better way to start off Perth Fashion Week with a showcase of international talent to wake up and shake up the minds of the local audience and talent, by bringing to our little town the brilliance of design around the world.
