Trend Alert: The Double Bag – Jenni Sellan, Brisbane
Gaining credibility on the streets at Paris, London and New York City’s fashion weeks, bloggers, models and those there to be seen were snapped showcasing the double bag trend by the fashion paparazzi. The ultimate stamp of approval was signed, sealed and delivered, when Mr Fashion himself, Karl Lagerfeld, featured it on the runway at Chanel’s SS2104 ready-to-wear- collection reveal in Paris.
And so it is; double the arm candy. It’s the double bag trend.
Fashion and practicality are rarely found in the same sentence, however this trend seems somewhat sensible, because as partial as we might be to a sleek clutch or mini bag… don’t we secretly wish for more room?
The two bag trend has had a mixed response. Is this truly a groundbreaking trend or have we succumbed to necessity and covered it up by calling it chic? Regardless of the motivation, two bags just became fashionably better than one, and the skill for layering just intensified, as has your savings plan if it’s a trend you plan on embracing, because you just doubled the price of your Chanel.
So what is the trick to ‘carrying’ this trend off? (Pardon the pun). Consider first, its inherently practical nature. Most of us are not models walking down the Chanel catwalk in Paris where necessity is irrelevant. If you genuinely don’t need a second bag, leave it at home and avoid being a slave to fashion.
If you do need two bags and want to coordinate your look, consider the mix of colours and textures, and approach it the same way you would when putting a regular outfit together.
The question remains. Are two bags really better than one, or is this simply ‘excess’ at its trendsetting best?
You decide. After all, style is as individual and unique as you are!
